Betharram Caves (Grottes de Bétharram)

Open to the public since 1903, the Bétharram Caves offer you an extraordinary journey in the heart of the Earth.

Located between Pau and Lourdes, they mark the border between Béarn and Bigorre. Indeed, the access of the caves is done by the Pyrénées-Atlantiques and the exit by the Hautes-Pyrénées!

A journey into the heart of the earth to discover an extraordinary underground world!

During a guided tour lasting 1 hour and 20 minutes, you will travel through a mountain that has been shaped by water over the centuries. Discover a fascinating underground world, where an enchanting display of limestone formations with astonishing shapes is enhanced by carefully designed lighting. The remarkable variety of formations will spark your imagination throughout the visit. After exploring the first level of the caves, you will descend the 250 steps leading to the abyss and the underground river. With 800 metres of rock above your head, you will enjoy a peaceful boat ride before continuing your journey aboard the little train, which will take you back to the exit.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION 

Open every day  from March 23rd to July 5th and from August 24th to November 1st  from 9.30 am. to 12 pm. and from 1.30 pm. to 5 pm. (last departure 4.30 pm.) 

From July 6th to August 23th every day from 9 am. to 6 pm. (last departure 5.30 pm) 


Disabled access (physical) limited to the 1st floor of the caves. For all persons with disabilities, the visit must be made in the morning and by reservation.
